College Merger Consultation

Consultation

The Merger will create one of the most exciting colleges in England, with an income of nearly £60m and 16,000 students

In line with many colleges across the UK, Bedford College and Tresham College have been discussing the possibility of a more collaborative approach to education, aiming to ensure the best possible service to the local communities within North Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

The Governing Bodies of both institutions have detailed the proposal for a merger to take place on Tuesday 1 August 2017. The consultation document describes the reason for the merger and the benefits and opportunities it will bring for students, employers and the wider community.  The decision of the two Governing Bodies to submit this proposal reflects a positive strategy to deliver a strengthened local skills offer, in a climate when the stability of individual colleges may be challenged in the future.

The guiding principle throughout the consultation is to make clear the reasons behind the decision of both institutions and to ensure that the best interest of students, employers and local community are at the very heart of any decision that is made.

Our plan for the merger of Bedford and Tresham College will continue to be refined as views are given by the public and our stakeholders.  The closing date for receipt of responses to the consultation is Friday 5 May 2017.
