More than 100 people have upgraded their computer skills thanks to the Bedford College Training Centre in Castle Street, Luton.
At a special ceremony certificates were presented by Deputy Mayor of Luton, Dr Raja Saleem and Bedford College Principal and CEO, Ian Pryce CBE.
Dr Saleem said: “Computer skills have now become a necessity in the workplace, and in many other aspects of our lives, and I am so pleased to see that so many have taken advantage of this wonderful facility.”
Student of the year prize awarded to Gloria Lalla. Gloria attended maths and English classes alongside her ITQ course and now intends to start a nursing degree course.
Since achieving her ITQ Level 2 qualification, Geraldine Ring has found employment in Luton, working in the Finance department of a company that has many prestigious international customers. Geraldine now uses Excel to an advanced level each day but says that she would not have had the confidence to apply for such a role if it wasn’t for the help and encouragement that she received in the centre.
Sarah Parrot admits that she was a nervous wreck around computers when she started her ITQ Level 1 course but, eight months later, having successfully completed both the Level 1 and Extended Level 2 qualifications, Sarah has become an extremely competent IT user. Now working in a school and studying for a teaching assistant qualification, Sarah says that she would never had been able to have embarked on this without the support she received at the centre.
