Apprenticeship Director announced in National Apprenticeship Week
Monday 13 March 2017
A new Director of Apprenticeships has been appointed to spearhead Bedford College’s campaign to add to its 1,000's of “earn while you learn” opportunities.
Already the largest provider of apprenticeships in the SEMLEP region and the only local college meeting the new Government ‘standards’ for training*, Bedford College is now revving up to consolidate its position as the No. 1 FE college in the region. A merger with Tresham College in Northamptonshire, will make Bedford College one of the biggest colleges in the UK.**
Debbie Houghton’s appointment is unveiled on International Women’s Day (8 March) to amplify the commitment of the College to securing equal opportunities in all areas of employment.
Debbie will be working alongside Gina Bubbins and her Business Development team, who deal on a daily basis with all training needs of employers, from apprentices to bespoke training programmes and degree-level qualifications.
Bedford College has been guiding large and small employers through the new Apprenticeship Levy and a seminar will be held on 31 March for companies with a payroll in excess of £3 Million, who will have to pay the levy http://www.bedford.ac.uk/events/2017/march/apprenticeship-levy-event
Apprentices can begin at GCSE level and now rise to those who are older and wanting to “advance” to degree-level learning. This change benefits employers and employees who want to progress within the workplace, without the life-long debt incurred by going away to university.
