Business Intermediate (Level 2)

This study programme will provide you with a solid basis for progression in a number of business pathways. It will provide you with a sound knowledge of fundamental business concepts, while also equipping you with essential business and study skills. The dynamic programme will also give you the opportunity to undertake work experience and organise College events. During the study programme you will be supported by an experience and highly qualified team who will bring the subject to life through practical application.

Entry requirements

To begin this study programme you must have:

Duration: 1 Year
  • 3 GCSEs at grades A*-D or 9-4 ideally including English and maths 
OR
  • Business Level 1 Diploma with Functional Skills

Duration: 2 Years

3 GCSEs at grades A*-G or 9-1 ideally including English and maths, and a keen interest in business. 

Other relevant levels of qualification or experience will be considered.


Course content

During the study programme you will explore all the key functions of a business, including finance, human resources, customer service, economics, marketing and sales.

  • Subject units:
    • Enterprise in the business world
    • Promoting a brand
    • Principles of marketing
    • Principles of customer service
    • Building successful teams
    • Business online
    • Introducing retail business
    • Recruitment, selection and employment
    • Finance for business
  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications: 
    • You will also have the opportunity to plan and run a small College event and a small project. 

Assessment methods

Most of the units on the study programme will be assessed through completing practical coursework tasks. At least two units, and the Functional Skills qualifications, will be measured through formal assessments.

Business BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate

Plus:

  • Employability skills

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this study programme you can progress on to Business BTEC Level 3 qualifications; you could also undertake employment or an Apprenticeship in a business-related role.

Additional information

You will be required to pay a book fee of £25 and trip fee of £70.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
