Bedford College Technical & Professional (Civil Engineering) Apprenticeship Level 3

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. By following the Civil Engineering for Technicians pathway you will develop the skills, knowledge and competence you will need to carry out the duties of a Civil Engineering Technician in the workplace. Our courses have an excellent reputation with employers and help you to develop renewable technology construction skills that will put you at the forefront of the job market.

Entry requirements

Grade requirements: You will need to have GCSE grades A*- C in English and maths.

Other requirements: Previous construction based qualifications or experience with the construction sector is desirable but not essential.

Course content

During this apprenticeship you will study a range of topics, including:

  • Construction and the environment
  • Mathematics in construction
  • Science and materials
  • Construction technology and design
  • Surveying in construction and civil engineering
  • Structural analysis and design

Assessment methods

Assessment will take place in the workplace, through observation and the completion of a portfolio. At College, there are written assignments for each unit, and a selection of exams.

You will gain the following qualifications:

Construction & The Built Environment BTEC Level 3 Diploma

Further study and career options

Further study: On successful completion you could progress on to the Higher apprenticeship in Construction Site Management at Bedford College.

Career progression:You will have more advanced skills to progress on to a role as a civil engineering technician.

Additional information

You will need steel toe capped boots, a high viz vest and usual study stationary.

The College part of this apprenticeship will start in September, however you will be able to start the work based learning element at any time throughout the year.
