English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
These courses will help you to improve your English for work, everyday life or further study.
There are five levels to choose from depending upon your existing skills: Beginners (Entry Level 1), Elementary (Entry Level 2), Lower Intermediate (Entry Level 3) Higher Intermediate (Level 1) and Advanced (Level 2).
You do not need any qualifications to start, but you must be a UK resident.
You will need to attend a free assessment before you start to help decide which level is best for you.
You will study a range of topics to improve your skills in:
- ILT (using computers).
You will also learn about Health, Education, Local Government, the Royal Family and other topics, which are all part of being a citizen in the UK.
You will work towards the Cambridge ESOL or the City & Guilds Certificate in Skills for Life ESOL at an appropriate level.
You will then be able to take the following tests when you are ready:
- Speaking & Listening
Further study and career options
Successful completion of the Cambridge ESOL or the City & Guilds Certificate in Skills for Life ESOL at each level enables you to go on to the next level of study.
Completion of Entry Level 3 and above will give you access to a range of courses and further education options at Bedford College. Once you have completed Level 2, you can either follow a Level 3 vocational course at Bedford College, or enrol on a Level 3 language course leading to the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English.
You will need to attend College for a minimum of four hours per week during the morning, afternoon or evening. View our leaflet for more information on dates, times and fees
