Paediatric First Aid QNUK Level 3 Award

The purpose of the unit is for the learner to attain knowledge and practical competences required to deal with the range of paediatric emergency first aid situations.

Course content

After completing the course, learners will:

  • Understand the role of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is wounded and bleeding
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock.

Assessment methods

Tutor assessed through observation and a short answer paper.

Additional information

There will also be an opportunity for you to be aware of the knowledge and practical competences required to deal with the range of paediatric illnesses and injuries. Waivers available for those studying a full time care/childcare course, call for details.
