Beauty Therapy City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma

This course will equip you with the skills you need to carry out a range of beauty, nails and make-up treatments to a nationally recognised standard. You will study topics that can lead to a career in the beauty, nail or make-up industries. This is a preparation for work qualification that can lead to working as a self-employed therapist, counter sales, or continue onto level 3 in beauty, massage, nails or make-up.

Entry requirements

You will need 3 GCSEs at grade A* to D including English or a Level 1 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy qualification.

Course content

This course focuses on preparing you for working in the professional beauty industry. You will study the underpinning knowledge and theory to the treatments as well as working on clients in our commercial beauty salons.

You will study a range of units including:

  • Working in the beauty related industries
  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Client care and communication
  • Facial skin care
  • Provide manicure treatments
  • Provide pedicure treatments
  • Shaping and colouring eyebrows
  • Day, evening and special occasion make-up
  • Create an image based on a theme

Assessment methods

This is a vocationally related qualification where your theory will be assessed with online end of unit tests set by City & Guilds and your practical treatments will be undertaken on clients in our High Street salon assessed against set criteria.

Further study and career options

This qualification is suitable for those wishing to work as a beauty therapist. It will give you the skills to progress onto a Level 3 course in your chosen career.

Additional information

We regard appearance, conduct and attitude as an essential and on-going part of the course. You will be required to wear the designated uniform and adhere to professional codes of appearance and conduct at all times. You will be required to purchase a uniform (£50.00), working kit (approximately £77.00), and text books. During your course, you may be required to participate as a model for treatments by your peers. Also, you will be expected to attend a professional beauty exhibition (coach fare to London, approximately £15.00).
