Beauty Therapy Advanced (Level 3)

This advanced study programme will provide you with both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for all aspects of beauty therapy. The programme will support the development of your ability to a nationally-recognised standard, and will help to progress your career to a higher level. Upon successful completion of this study programme you will be fully qualified to work in spas and salons around the world, or to start your own business.

Duration: 1 Year

  • Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma with Functional Skills


Course content

  • Subject units:
    • Advanced facials (e.g. microdermabrasion)
    • Body slimming treatments (e.g. microtone)
    • Swedish body massage
    • Epilation hair removal
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Promotional activities
    • Health & safety
  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications


Assessment methods

You will be continually assessed throughout the study programme on all practical aspects by the beauty therapy tutors in the College’s salons. It must be stressed that full commitment is essential for success, and you will be required to pass online end of unit, multiple choice exam papers set by the awarding body.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this study programme you can progress on to employment in a range of professional establishments, such as salons, spas and health farms, or you could gain employment in the training of others. This will lead to careers in spas, working on cruise ships, salons or setting up your own business. Higher level courses can also be taken in Advanced Epilation Techniques at Level 4.

Additional information

We regard appearance, conduct and attitude as an essential part of the study programme; you will therefore be required to wear the designated uniform and adhere to professional codes of appearance and conduct at all times. There will be an additional fee of £47.00 to cover the cost of your uniform and £75.00 to cover your personal equipment. During the course you will be required to go on field trips, with the cost of these trips being £37.50.

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at www.bedford.ac.uk/finance

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Find out more at www.bedford.ac.uk/loans. You can also pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
