This highly creative course is ideal for practising hairdressers, and covers all aspects of hairdressing, from haircutting skills and techniques to advising clients.
This course is suitable for experienced hairdressers, employed within the hairdressing industry, who wish to further their career.
You will need to have an NVQ Level 2, or up to five years salon experience as a junior stylist. If you are over 21, you may gain entry to the course subject to a successful interview, and will be considered individually on your experience rather than your qualifications. All applicants are required to attend an interview.
All candidates will be required to take part in an industry based 'Trade Test'. This will be completed within the interview process. All candidates will need to provide their own tools, equipment and models where required.
During the course you will cover a range of topics, including:
- Contribution to health, safety and security of a salon
- Client consultation
- Cutting women's hair creatively
- Promotion of products and services in the salon
- Colouring women's hair
- Styling women's hair
- Creative hairdressing design
- Planning and promotion of promotional activities.
Assessment is continuous. Theoretical knowledge is assessed by external online multiple choice tasks.
Further study and career options
On successful completion you can progress onto employment in the hairdressing industry, such as working in a salon, teaching and training others in this field, setting up your own salon, working on a cruise liner as a a manufacturer's technician/demonstrator.
During this course you will need to attend College for one a day a week. You have the option to purchase additional tools and a Level 3 text book, approximately £120-124. All students are required to wear the designated uniform and follow professional codes of appearance and conduct. Students will be working on female models and blocks.
