We recognise that the music industry is in a constant state of change, with traditional record sales shrinking the live music industry has exploded into action. Live concerts are now recorded, mixed and distributed across on demand streaming services, or online stores.
The way in which music is consumed is changing; the rapid growth of the media sector over the last ten years has created many opportunities for audio professionals from sound design and composition for moving picture, to audio technologies for games and mobile phones. Within our curriculum you will gain a thorough grounding in the contemporary music industry to enable you to succeed in your career.
An innovative curriculum
We offer courses ranging from Level 1 through to Level 4 and offer our students a pathway to go as far as they can. We aim to provide you with a solid grounding in the workings of the music industry and to give you the skills to succeed. Our courses give you the opportunity to experience the many facets of the music industry through live projects, workshops and tutorials.
As an Apple Logic and Pro Tools Training centre we are equipped with the latest equipment. We have two recording studio suites, computer editing rooms, rehearsal rooms, performance rooms and a theatre.
You will be taught by a range of tutors with many years of experience from across areas of the industry.
Bedford College students won the 2016 Battle of the Bands at the Stables in Milton Keynes. The band, called Weighted Space, is comprised of five Bedford College Music Performance Level 3 students. They competed against ten other local schools and college bands gaining an exciting prize package in the process.
Our £6 million South Bank Arts Centre features a state-of-the-art theatre, rehearsal studios, recording and television studios and art studios. Students studying on our Music Performance and Music Technology courses work across the department in facilities which include:
- 2 recording studio suites
- 3 music editing rooms with Logic Pro, Avid Pro Tools & Reason
- A music rehearsal and practice suite
- Performance hall with staging and live sound rig
Our purpose built studio theatre has hosted many performances and is fully equipped with technical lighting, a professional sound system and digital mixing desks. The two live rooms feature drum kits, an acoustic piano, percussion and a wide range of guitars and basses. The three recording studios all have Apple Mac Pros with up-to-date software such as Avid Pro Tools and Ableton Live, in addition to compressor noise gates and mixing decks.
