Conquer more than a Bushtucker trial with Outdoor Adventure at Shuttleworth
With five weeks until Christmas I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of here! is back on our screens! 12 celebrities let lose in the jungle; jumping out of helicopters, kayaking across a river and starting campfires… and that was just day one! From the comfort of our sofa, many of us think we can do better in the famous Bushtucker trials… and with an Outdoor Adventure course, we’re pretty confident you could!
If you love the great outdoors then these are the courses for you. Working in the industry means you'll always be part of a huge team effort – whether it's providing activities such as raft-building, kayaking and mountain biking to school and youth groups, working in corporate training or as a sports development officer.
We’re really lucky to have so many great facilities in the local area: Grafham Water Centre, Go Ape and Center Parcs. We have a great relationship with Grafham where our students regularly go for our sailing programme. You may not be aware, but by doing an Outdoor Adventure course with us you will be learning to sail on the same water as Giles Scott who won Gold in the Finn class at Rio 2016!
We were following the more adventurous sports during the Rio Olympics and Paralympics. There were plenty of medals in Cycling, Rowing, Triathlon and many others! And we’re very excited that Climbing will be an Olympic sport as of Tokyo 2020. Our own students are doing really well internationally. Chloe Anderson competes in Wakeboarding and was selected to represent Team GB at the September 2016 European Championships in Israel. Sam Curl competes internationally in Flow Board and won the last European Championship series held in Ibiza.
Students are involved in a rotation of activities on a weekly basis, which includes bushcraft skills, kayaking, canoeing, orienteering, climbing, archery and sailing. We’ve got acres of beautiful grounds: woodland for making fires (and hot chocolate!), lakes and plenty of space for learning how to lead team building activities.
In fact, real businesses come to Shuttleworth Activity Centre for team building days run by our students who organise and lead the activities including archery, canoeing, crate stacking, kayaking, orienteering, problem solving, and raft building. They also lead activity days for visiting school groups.
You will also benefit from the strong industry links the College has with a wide range of outdoor activity providers, which enable us to offer you a diverse selection of work placements both in the UK and across Europe. From careers in kayaking on the River Ouse, sailing at Grafham Water, coasteering in Wales, yachting on the Solent, studying outdoor leadership or management at Uni, snowboarding in the Aosta Valley Italy or going to America for the summer.
