If you are highly motivated, energetic and dynamic – you'll flourish – specialising towards career paths which include the armed forces, emergency, paramedical or prison services. Why choose us?

These areas benefit from strong government backing – public services are essential roles without which society would be in crisis. Public services workers have to be fit as the working environment can be physically dangerous. These jobs will call for you to enjoy a challenge, be level-headed and have good communication skills, too.

You will learn the vital skills you will need to get your first job and start a promising career. Many of our students also take the opportunity to gain additional qualifications, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award and health for life and drug awareness qualifications.

Experienced tutors
All of our lecturers have worked in public service roles such as police officers, soldiers, paramedics, and prison officers which gives an extra dimension to lessons and will enable you to draw on their vocational experience.

Fantastic facilities
Study with us and you will have access to a wide range of excellent facilities. Springs is our multi-million pound Sports Centre, home to the College’s highly-esteemed Sport Academy. It features a full sized sports hall, dance studio, a fitness studio with cardiovascular equipment and weights. We are also situated next to the river and various parks which means access to kayaking, orienteering, raftbuilding and other activities.

Trips and visits to complement your studies
As a public services student, you will have opportunities to visit and train with the RAF, Territorial Army and Fire Service. As well as this, you will be able to take exchange trips every year. Recent visits include a trip to the Peak District and to San Benedetto del Tronto, an Adriatic coastal town in Italy where the team undertook the challenge of mountain trekking with the Italian Navy. Our sports students also take a variety of trips to visit sporting venues, including Lilleshall National Sports Centre, York College and the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Bedford College is proud to announce another generous donation from international body armour brand SafeGuard Clothing.  The company has presented our Public Services course with a bullet proof vest to give students a better understanding of the working mechanics behind the design and structure as well as the importance of safety in the line of work.

SafeGuard Clothing is internationally recognised as a leader in the manufacturing and distribution of tactical body armour for the military, police and security personnel. At Bedford College we have made it our top priority to form long-standing partnerships with reputable brands that share our commitment to public safety and broadening of the education horizons for our students.

Such donations create hands-on learning experiences for our students and allow them to access industry leading expertise and best practices. SafeGuard's bullet proof vests perfectly demonstrate the importance of personal safety in the field of Public Services.  All donated body armour is used in role-plays and sessions on health and safety to educate students.
